The Future is Now!

This is the most exciting thing that’s happened at 3675 since we moved in almost two months ago now…

More exciting than the completion of our new deck…

More exciting than the clogged drain pipe episode…

More exciting than the doggy door that’s saving us from waking up to let Sam out to poop and chase cats at 1:00 AM…

We can stop carting three loads at a time to Launderland and paying $30 to have everything washed for us same-day while we’re at work.

We can slowly wash our way through the giant box of dirty towels we packed all our dishes in, and go back to having more than two towels in the bathroom!

If I get grease on my jeans while eating a veggie burger on the street in downtown Oakland, I will no longer throw a conniption fit because I WON’T BE ABLE TO WASH THEM FOR TWO WEEKS YET and I’ll NEVER GET THE STAIN OUT and the jeans are RUUUIIINNNEEEDDD (sorry, Marlene).

There are many reasons we got a combo unit. In case you’re wondering…

  1. They’re the most energy-efficient way to wash clothes out there, even more so if you have a 6,000 square foot backyard (like we do) and live in almost perpetual sunshine, on a hill, with a constant breeze, and will rarely use the drying function anyway (we also just picked out a sweet retractable clothes line to mount to the side of the house).
  2. There’s no better way to save space, and if you watch the video up there, you’ll see that the corner of our basement that we call the “laundry room” left us with just a slight space challenge; now we actually have room to move around while we’re doing laundry (uh, while I’m doing laundry).
  3. Buying one machine costs less than buying two, even if you’re buying a top-of-the-line future machine like this one. We still saved a few hundred dollars.

Oh — and if you’ve heard they take “6 hours to do a load,” it doesn’t quite work like that. I lived in an apartment with one of these machines seven years ago and I can tell you, it was awesome. If you fully utilize their magical settings and add in the power of the sun, you can make some sweet, sweet laundry love.

So now is when we say THANK YOU to Munga for buying it for us! Best housewarming gift ever, especially because we probably would have gotten stuck with some craptastic old energy hogs off Craigslist otherwise.

Gotta go! It’s playing me a tune to say our first load of towels is done!

You are welcome! I can’t wait to try it out! When you guys do something, you do it right! You have now convinced me that this is the only way to go. I will never again buy a traditional set of machines, thanks to your fantastic research and great advice. Your “house” is becoming a “home”. I am so happy that you are both so happy. Good job, “Vanna” on that demo! Love, Mom
