Laurel Love

We’re falling in love with our ‘hood — the Laurel District.

This past weekend was a packed one for us, but we’re still high off the annual Laurel Street Fair, on MacArthur Boulevard, just a couple blocks from our house.

The 2012 Laurel Street Fair.

MacArthur Boulevard by our house on Saturday afternoon.

Wow. It’s been a long time since I went to a street fair that wasn’t about twentysomethings getting wasted, naked, and puking/peeing on other people’s property.

This was an awesome celebration of community, with some funkyass soul music and some amazing food (even vegan!).

And beer! All street fairs need beer.

Not vegan food!

We strutted the streets and let Sammy meet his neighbors while scrounging roast pig scraps. And I was happy to see my former coworker, Autumn, out with her boys, Masai and Asante. They also live in the Laurel, turns out.

The weather was a perfect, 94619-sunny-and-80-degrees. We stopped by the Laurel Ace Hardware on our walk home and picked up some lumber for some small projects and some parts for our new MECHANICAL LAWNMOWER…

Trent mowing the lawn.

Inaugural mow with our new mechanical mower! Yay for being Green (we’re bringing the dead spots back — don’t judge)!

Too bad we were lured back into SF later that night to to use our free VIP passes to Outside Lands. Trent snags them through work every year. Next year — nah. We’ll just stick around the street fair. We’re too old for Outside Lands, we’ve discovered, and screw the fog.

The Kills were better when we saw them at the Fox in Oakland, anyway.

HELLA LOVE THE LAUREL.

Trent mowing the lawn!!! How cute is that!!! The tide has turned from “Outside Lands” (whatever that is) to “Harry Homeowner”. And you are so green! I love it! No only are you saving gas money, you are saving the environment too. You are living the philosophy, and I so envy you both. However, my recycling pile gets bigger every week. And I have the grandparents trained too!

I love the new “hood”! Char and I can’t wait to get there. I want to try every kind of food imaginable and eat roast pig with Sammy. It’s all so “Oaklandish”! I so want to retire and move to Oakland.

    Love,

    Mom

Oh — when you get here, we’re going to send you to buy all the fruit for boozin’ at Farmer Joe’s down the hill. Don’t worry. You will get real familiar with the neighborhood real fast. 😉
