Oh, Padron!

Garden update!

Climate change is making our fig tree crazy. I need to learn to make fig newtons. And fig jam. And fig+olive tapenade. And figgy pudding. And any other good figgy things that can be given away as gifts because, you know – there’s only so many figs two people can reasonably eat without really, really suffering consequences.

Just a few enormous figs I grabbed off the tree this past weekend. To make room for the 10,000 new green ones already trying to take their places...

Also, our tomato plants didn’t die. AND… In fact, turns out not only are we GOOD at growing tomatoes, we’re actually really, REALLY good at growing something else…

A perfect padron pepper. Since I snapped this, it's about twice this size. And coming up right behind it are vines full of jalapenos and serrano chillis, too.

We’re gonna be eating a lot of salsa. Salsa and fig newtons. Until Christmas…

I would start churning out the salsa and fig newtons, since they make great gifts (HINT). And it could be a break on your budget too! You must have the perfect climate conditions for peppers and tomatoes, and a steady supply of product would enable you to prepare enough for your entire family in Michigan (HINT). Can you make fig newtons healthy?

I like dried figs, too. That’s not a hint. Just give me some figs. 😉
