Wiz Whirlwind

Woo hoo baby! Last weekend was quite a weekend. What you might call a “whirlwind.” It went a little something like this…

  • Leave SFO, 10:30 PM
  • Land DTW, 5:45 AM
  • Get picked up by Munga, head back to her new “double-wide” abode

FORESHADOWING: Here's Sarah poking some official fun at the double-wide later on in the weekend...

FORESHADOWING: Here’s Sarah poking some official fun at the double-wide later on in the weekend…

  • Catch up with the grandparents for a few hours
  • Nap for a few hours
  • Sarah arrives after an 8-hour drive from DC!
  • Shower, get dressed, and head to Grandma’s 72nd high school reunion (she was the only alumni there from the class of ’42, if you’re wondering, but when you get to be that old, they bundle a good 20 years together)
Oldest sweethearts at the party.

  • Party until 10:00 PM – YES! ALL OF US! UNTIL 10:00 PM!
  • Sleep
  • Wake up exhausted
  • Visit with the grandparents a bit more
  • Shower, get dressed, and head to Amber’s for a little pre-party
  • Head downtown to check into our suite at the Atheneum
  • Pre-party some more in the suite
They swear they didn't plan the outfits.

  • Head to the Hockeytown Cafe amid the mayhem of the sold-out Lions/Browns pre-season pre-game festivities
  • Party until midnight at the graduation bash of the century!
My friends came out in droves to celebrate Sarah!

  • Head back to the hotel with more people amid the usual Detroit-summer-bar’s-closed-mayhem, bass pumping so loud all over the city, we think we might throw up
  • Head to Plaka’s and get late night Greek food
  • NO ONE THROWS UP!
  • Pass out around 3:30 AM
Some of us may have passed out a WEEE bit sooner...

  • Wake up exhausted
  • Stumble downstairs to Fishbone’s for breakfast with Mom, Char, and Bud, who drive down to see us once more
Pretty morning faces!

  • Take a crazy detour across the city to beat construction traffic
Discover paradise along the way.

  • Make it to the airport by 2:00 PM
  • Fly back to SFO
  • Take a train to Oakland
  • Take a taxi to our car, parked at Lisa’s office
  • Go grocery shopping (this is most important!)
  • Go home

It sure was worth it! That scene of you sleeping at Plaka’s is reminiscent of many similar scenes when your dad wanted to go out for greasy eggs at 2:00 a.m., after partying all night. I have a similar shot of him doing the same thing. Must be hereditary. But then again, with an itinerary like that, I am surprised (and THRILLED) that you made it to the end of the weekend. After all, we won’t be together like that again for a long time. Loved every minute of it!

BTW, how did you get into the firehouse!?!?!

I wish we could have seen each other, it would have been fun to get in on the blowup!
