Bathroom: In Progress

Completely demoed and ready to go.

Completely demoed and ready to go.

As of yesterday morning, I believed this would be a “Bathroom: Midpoint” post. But as of this morning, seems like we may not be quite at the “midpoint” yet…

Things got a little complicated with our long-awaited remodel project after I came home from a weekend away at the cabin and discovered our contractors about to lay tile…

…only the plumbing attachments for the toilet and sink were still in the same places they’d always been.

The same STUPID, RIDICULOUS PLACES.

Too close together, and too close to the tub. So close, in fact, that our new modern toilet and sink won’t even fit there. They will literally be four inches ON TOP of each other. And part of the sink will be IN the tub.

Because THIS stupid little lameass sink is GONE. Rotting in my driveway (at the moment):

I HATE YOU.

I HATE YOU.

Anyway, we’re working it out. Our contractors are good guys and thank god we caught all this before the tile went down. It’s partly their screw up and partly ours – for not being extra specific about the placement to begin with (but I mean really, it’s mostly theirs; there is no way a modern sink and toilet could go back in those positions and why on earth did they not at least check the dimensions of the fixtures before they started covering stuff up, if they couldn’t tell just by LOOKING AT IT ALL?).

It’s not too late to fix, at least. It’s gonna add some time and we will probably have to pay at least for some additional labor, but I believe them when they say they will work with us to fix it as cheaply as possible. They’ve always been good to us.

I promised Trent I would curb my freak out, so this is officially now just an “in progress” update until further notice.

Here are some pics of the mayhem, which otherwise has been overall less terrifying than expected:

Even if they missed the plumbing move, these guys do always take good care of my floors.

When we bought 3675, our home inspector was CERTAIN the subfloor in this bathroom was rotten. Turns out it's not, other than this little spot. Home inspectors are kinda useless, folks.

The wretched door (and its hate note) were among the first things to go.

State of the bathroom on the day of the near-mishap with the plumbing. Really great progress up until this point! Send good vibes, friends...

At least it wasn’t too late to fix it. And it is the plumber’s fault. And inspectors are useless. Curb your freakout. At least they take good care of the floors. Happy remodeling!!

Are we having fun yet? Been there – done that. It’s a lot worse when the Contractor is your husband and the “guys” are all his buddies and you DARE NOT criticize their work; because the mistakes might just be do to the Contractor not relaying YOUR desires to his guys! So glad I will NEVER do that again!

There is nothing easy about what you are doing or your situation that you find yourself in. One thing that drives me crazy are plumbers and other contractors who do not deliver outstanding work.. Just so long as you learn from any mistakes that are made, you will be ok I think… in the end…
