Tree, v.2016

We have secured –

– the 2016 Temple Family Christmas Tree!

Trent after cutting our 2016 tree, blissfully unaware that you can’t really touch this thing anywhere besides the green stuff. Cypress trees are painfully prickly, people. Pretty and PRICKLY. Beauty is pain.

We went tree hunting this past weekend in Petaluma for the third year in a row with our friends Jessica and Larry. We adore this kickoff to our holiday season; it’s a real tradition now in the Temple household. But THIS year was special, since the little bundle of joy Jessica was carting along in utero last year was out in full banana-biscuit-gobbling force for 2016, ready to have a say in her second (technically, but by just a few days) Christmas tree:  Continue reading

My, how the time has soared like an F-15 Strike Eagle.

It’s been almost four years since Team Temple tied the knot in our factory rave weddingstravaganza, and as we have a tendency to do, this year we’ll be traveling on our anniversary. We’re headed back to Washington D.C. for the long weekend to visit my sister Sarah and tear up U-Street. We’ll all be crashing together in a fabulously hip little boutique hotel in between happy hours with her growing group of politico friends, jaunts to her office at Main Justice, and private tours of the Capitol.

But in true Team Temple style, we made sure to make time for ourselves. This past Saturday night was OUR night, and this is our Cheers! Salut! Prost! Sláinte! to us, for four very well-done years, in which we’ve accomplished more than we ever dreamed possible. Lisa, the shark who never stops swimming and propelling us forward, and Trent, the cool cat who can be light on his feet if he wants to keep up with Lisa, or completely chilled out when he wants to slow her down. Showing off our booty from the King of Rex parade.

Showing off our booty from the King of Rex parade.

The answer is, YES. Yes, we did. But the far greater feat was surviving the COLD.

Not joking, people! Bitterly cold, in Louisiana. It was a Michigan-style Mardi Gras for those two Detroiters up there, for real. It seems climate change may be out to thwart Mardi Gras, making us even more glad we crossed this one off our bucket lists sooner rather than later. Trying to catch beads while your hand is literally frozen to your beer can is a bit of a challenge… Continue reading

Cheesy Gras

One week until I'm eating hangover food NOLA style, like these brie fries from Baie Rouge.

It’s officially ONE WEEK until MARDI GRAS!

I have to admit, I got a little nervous this past weekend, thinking I juuust miiiggghhht have set myself up for such an epically off-the-charts cheestastic Remissaversary celebration… I actually started to doubt whether I’d be up for it. I actually got a little AFRAID of my own Remissaversary plan. Continue reading
