Tree v. 2017

This is our 2017 Christmas tree.

Oh, Christmas tree…

It fell over while we were decorating it: the first time that’s ever happened to us. Smashed bulbs and spilled water. Scared dog cowering in the corner. It almost fell over a second time, too, but by then we had grown wiser to its ways and managed to catch it.

It was a fitting end to our Thanksgiving weekend: two sick-as-hell people struggling to decorate their house for Christmas, to salvage some holiday cheer after their family celebration in the mountains was ruined by the flu, the tree absolutely refusing to cooperate. Both of us still up at 9:00 PM, delirious, insisting we could do it; we could have some happy holidays in 2017. We could end a terrible year on a high note. There were still things to look forward to…

And there are. I guess. Siiiggghhh.

The tree is up. The halls are decked. Christmas will come. We’ve both already had the flu this season, so maybe we won’t get it again, right? (??? Knock on wood…).

This too shall pass.

So, here we go, full steam ahead into Christmas 2017, and then into a new year which, we hope, has good things in store not just for us, but for the whole world.

We both kinda feel like flopping over at this point, but we’re holding each other up like invisible fishing wire behind the scenes. We can do this.

The world can do this.

>> 40

2018 is going to be a great year.

And I’m not just saying that because THIS year has been such an enormous loser, there’s absolutely NO WAY I CAN’T feel warm and fuzzy about a new one.

I’m saying it because 2018 is the year that ALL the people I love are going to turn 40.

Well, not all of them – a few already have…

Anna turned 40 in June 2017, and you better believe I was there for it.

Tree, v.2016

We have secured –

– the 2016 Temple Family Christmas Tree!

Trent after cutting our 2016 tree, blissfully unaware that you can't really touch this thing anywhere besides the green stuff.

Trent after cutting our 2016 tree, blissfully unaware that you can’t really touch this thing anywhere besides the green stuff. Cypress trees are painfully prickly, people. Pretty and PRICKLY. Beauty is pain.

We went tree hunting this past weekend in Petaluma for the third year in a row with our friends Jessica and Larry. We adore this kickoff to our holiday season; it’s a real tradition now in the Temple household. But THIS year was special, since the little bundle of joy Jessica was carting along in utero last year was out in full banana-biscuit-gobbling force for 2016, ready to have a say in her second (technically, but by just a few days) Christmas tree:  Continue reading

My, how the time has soared like an F-15 Strike Eagle.

It’s been almost four years since Team Temple tied the knot in our factory rave weddingstravaganza, and as we have a tendency to do, this year we’ll be traveling on our anniversary. We’re headed back to Washington D.C. for the long weekend to visit my sister Sarah and tear up U-Street. We’ll all be crashing together in a fabulously hip little boutique hotel in between happy hours with her growing group of politico friends, jaunts to her office at Main Justice, and private tours of the Capitol.

But in true Team Temple style, we made sure to make time for ourselves. This past Saturday night was OUR night, and this is our Cheers! Salut! Prost! Sláinte! to us, for four very well-done years, in which we’ve accomplished more than we ever dreamed possible. Lisa, the shark who never stops swimming and propelling us forward, and Trent, the cool cat who can be light on his feet if he wants to keep up with Lisa, or completely chilled out when he wants to slow her down. 4.0, v.KD

Just in case you were wondering, this is what 40 looks like…

Middle-aged babe alert!

Middle-aged babe alert!

That’s right! TWO HOT MAMAS IN A HOT TUB!

(okay, one of us still has a couple years to go, but we’re getting a pat on the back anyway…) Continue reading
