Earth Stink So Sweet

We embarked on a little Labor Day adventure this past weekend, away from the house and Operation: Kick the Yard’s Ass (don’t worry, the yard kicked our ass plenty upon returning). We took the new car (name: still TBD) up to Trent’s parents’ on Lake Almanor, in Northeastern California. Our friends, Scott and Kristen, drove up from Fresno and met us there, and we spent a day hiking in nearby Lassen Volcanic National Park.

A peaceful peak in Lassen Volcanic National Park.

We also enjoyed a myriad of other outdoorsy Labor Day weekend activities, including swimming in the lake with Sammy and bargain hunting in the bustling downtown of Chester. Stoplights = 0 (correct me if I’m wrong)… Continue reading

Pura Vida!

We officially became homeowners this morning. We’ve closed on the house, the title is recorded, and after work, we’re going over to OUR home, by ourselves, without our real estate agent, for the first time.

Kinda anti-climactic, really; it all happened electronically. But hey — we’re done. And we’re in a great big heaping pile of debt for the first time in our lives (but at least we’ve got a conventional loan and money left in the bank; the beauty of waiting until you’re in your mid-thirties to buy your first home, I suppose).

I was expecting this to be a BIG DAY!, but it’s not, really. I’m not at all anxious to get into the house tonight. I haven’t been daydreaming about it. I have been daydreaming, but my daydreams have been about…

Yup. Costa Rica. Continue reading

Green BEEEAN!

We just had the most awesome weekend.

I finally met Baby Audrey! For those of you who’ve already forgotten, Baby Audrey is partly responsible for my quitting Facebook. She’s a mighty influential six-month-old.

She’s also the daughter of my college roommate, Ellen, and her husband, Chris. They’re probably the two most mellow, laid-back, awesomely chill people I know. I love hanging out with them because I constantly hope some of that will rub off on me. I don’t know if it did this weekend (I’m not really sure if it ever does, actually), but I definitely got to kiss a lot of baby cheeks.

Cheeks like THESE!!!

It Is Written…

Lisa's Facebook screenshotToday, I published my “Facebook deletion manifesto.” On Facebook.

Yes, I see the irony. But it makes sense, if you’re on Facebook. And read the manifesto.

I’m on a “countdown to deletion” now. April 1st will be my official deletion day. And that means, after that, the manifesto will be lost. Sooo… Since I’m still suffering from Facebook-induced vanity, I’m going to start this new blog by reposting the manifesto. That way, if I ever lose track of why I’m doing this, I’ll be able to get it back for a look…

After all — it’s HARD not to look. Right?

But most importantly, here I am, setting up our new blog. Where I’m going to focus on worthy things in our lives (if not always good), while staying out of the Facebook slipstream. But until “D-Day,” I’ll probably just muse about the pain of getting off Facebook… Continue reading
