From Cabo with Love

You know, when it gets to be this time of year, even though you have a FABULOUS all-inclusive Mexican beach bonanza of a Christmas planned… just for you and your awesome, much, much better half who you’ve not gotten enough private vacation time with all year long… you just can’t help but miss certain people, and wish they could come along with you.

YOU JUST CAN’T HELP IT!

DAMMIT!

So you dig around for photos of your 90-something-years-old grandparents and assemble them here on the blog. This is how we’ll take them all with us!

(And see? Some of them even dig pool parties, still!)

And we WILL see them when we get back. We will.

Wiz Whirlwind

Woo hoo baby! Last weekend was quite a weekend. What you might call a “whirlwind.” It went a little something like this…

  • Leave SFO, 10:30 PM
  • Land DTW, 5:45 AM
  • Get picked up by Munga, head back to her new “double-wide” abode

FORESHADOWING: Here's Sarah poking some official fun at the double-wide later on in the weekend...

75

It’s the last day of February, and I’m feeling a little warm and fuzzy as we close out the month of love.

Valentine's Day with my man in Chicago this year!

Valentine’s Day with my man in Chicago this year!

Maybe it’s because Trent embodied “SuperHubs” in the past 24 hours, chauffeuring me to my gal pal’s birthday party last night, waiting up with me while I made late night drunk food on a work night, then waking up early today to pack up our things and our pup, clean up the house, load the car, water the plants, and take out the garbage before we left for work, after which we’ll hit the road to Fresno for the weekend (and he’ll drive, OF COURSE). A Long, Long Ride

From the beautiful minds of Lucy and Sam, I give you...

From the beautiful minds of Lucy and Sam, I give you…

My mom sent me some random emails and text messages this week to pass on some stories recounted by my Grandparents in a spontaneous fit of remembering. I was going to spin a Friday Flashback around them somehow, but it’s taking too long to concoct that and I want to get them archived on here before I forget/lose them in the mayhem that is iOS 7 on my phone. So, here goes… Continue reading

True Yellow Rose of Texas

So, just in case you were wondering who I cut all my calla lilies for…

The answer is, this lovely lady:

Dorothy on her 90th birthday.

Dorothy on her 90th birthday.

Grandma Dorothy Eastwood: 90 years old as of this past Saturday.

As you can see, she got a few other flowers, too — including 90 yellow roses from her family back home in Texas.

If anyone deserves hundreds of flowers on their birthday, it’s this woman. Not only is she really as lovely as every bloom, but she’s a gifted gardener who gives me new insight into what to do with my own plants on a weekly basis.

Some day, she will leave behind a world peppered not only with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but with roses, calla lilies, irises, and African violets — all beautiful creations that wouldn’t be here without her.

And for that reason, I am working really, really, REALLY hard on getting the violet she gave me to bloom.
