Big 4-0

View on 40…

I’m 40!!!

And I love it.

I love my new age. My new “credentials”. I slipped over the hill and I just breathed a big sigh of relief…

I made it. And I have fully embraced my new identity. It feels great.  Continue reading

Dreaming: Quaranta

Where my ghosts are.

In less than three months from now, I’m going to Sicily to celebrate my 40th birthday.

It’s a little wild – not just that I’m actually turning 40 – but how the idea for this trip finally came together. I’d gone back and forth and back and forth about what I wanted to do to celebrate my big OVER THE HILL: throw a huge party for everyone I’ve ever met, be alone with my husband, take a road trip with just a couple friends, do nothing…

And finally I settled on Sicily.  Continue reading

Con Amore

It’s time to tell the tale of Sicily.

But as I’ve been preparing the photos of our trip over the course of the past week, I’ve realized it’s so hard to put it all into words.

Sicily is, simply, the MOST beautiful place on earth. Full of the MOST beautiful people, who eat the MOST delicious food. And bask in the MOST glorious weather. We’re back from Sicily!

Two glorious weeks on a ruggedly beautiful Mediterranean island treated us well. So well, that we’re drowning in photos and videos right now.

And by now it’s also obvious, I’m sure, that I’m really sort of roadblocked in terms of sharing too much until I have everything just so. I need all my photos collected, compiled, edited, and color-corrected (by the hubs, of course). I need them on Flickr first, sorted and tagged and disseminated to all the relevant (nagging) parties. And THEN I can think about sharing them here.

Such are the problems of the anal-retentive. Continue reading

Second Job

If travel agents still had any hope of gainful full-time employment, I’d be changing jobs right now.

I just planned a two-week trip to Sicily for 9 people featuring…

  • Coordinated airfare from three different departure cities
  • An itinerary with five stops
  • Two private villa rentals
  • Private transportation everywhere on the island

In one week flat. Booked and paid for. For almost $1500 less per person than everyone budgeted. Continue reading
